Adding a Grid and Text in Photoshop

There are many different tricks and methods in adding a border to your photographs in Photoshop. In the previous article I showed you a couple of different ways of framing your photographs, one very quick trick by altering the canvas size of the photograph you’re working with and a more sophisticated method that is great to frame a photograph onto an A4 size sheet of paper.
This article looks into adding text captions underneath your A4 border photograph, giving a polished look to your framed photographs and a professional finish to your prints.
Continuing on form step 5 of A Presentation Border in A4 Size, found in the previous article, Creating a Border Around Your Photographs – Photoshop Tutorial next we are going to add text captions left and right underneath the photograph. Lets go!
Adding a Grid
First to guide us in where to put the text, we’re going to overlay a grid over the whole canvas to help us in placing the text layers correctly. To do this go to the dropdown menu Edit, then onto Preferences > Grid. As our canvas is already set to A4 size, we now want the grid to correlate with this proportion, this also makes it easier to find the middle of the canvas if you need to. Colour – any colour that will show up best. Red is a good one.
Style – lines
Gridline every - 2.97 cm
Subdivisions – 10
Next to turn on the grid select View > Show > Grid… A load of squares should appear over the whole canvas once complete. To remove the grid at any point simply repeat these last steps.
Adding in Text
Now to add the Text. You can add in whatever you like, the title of the photograph, the date it was taken, and the creators name, it's up to you on what you'd like to add and how to set the text out on the canvas. Here we shall talk through adding a title over to the bottom left, and the creators name over to the right.
Select the Text button from the Tools window, and alter size, font, colour to suit accordingly. Something simple and understated is always a classic, such as black Arial, or Times New Roman font in a 10 or 12 px is a good choice.
In this text layer write in the title of your photograph, and place this over to the left hand side underneath the photograph, using the grid lines to guide you into the best position, try to make the text sit on one of the horizontal grid lines, running across the screen, making it easier to place the next piece of text over to the right.
Next another text layer, containing the creators name and date of the photograph, and place this over to the right hand side underneath the photograph, matching the grid line that the previous text layer is sitting on.
