Cheap Thanksgiving

Cheap Thanksgiving
I suppose you think I’m going to start out telling you you should have been carefully squirreling supplies for Thanksgiving festivals months ahead. Well actually you could do that, but the easiest way to have a cheap Thanksgiving is to mimic the first Harvest Thank You Day, and combine your resources with others!

Plan to meet family and/or friends and each bring one dish! This certainly will save you time, money, and bring you fresh to the celebration.

If you do have your own one family meal, then you can still have a fine cheap day by shopping each store for its holiday "loss leaders." These are items they sell below cost to lure you into the store. By carefully buying just the loss leaders at each store, and bravely walking past all other temptations you can get some really good deals.

Some discount stores have many fancy type holiday items like special olives, or other treats as loss leaders to get you in the door. Some I’ve found to be consistent good deals are:

www.aldis.com an international grocery bargain chain. You have to bring your own bags, but is it consistently the cheapest place in the NE USA.

www.savealot.com is a good cheap store in the southern USA.

www.biglots.com has lots of specialty food items at bulk prices over the holidays.

Another way to save is to join some of the click through sites where you register you credit, debit, or store savings cards to rack up dollars in a savings plan. Several I’ve found that are reputable and work are:
