Best Practices
The book of Proverbs is a book of wisdom or can be seen as a “Best Practices” manual. A wide variety of situations, trials and tribulations in which you might find yourself are addressed with advice on how to handle or avoid along with warnings and encouragement in dealing with them.
A great way to readily use the principles given in Proverbs is to read them daily. The repetition of daily reading will allow you to the ability to easily memorize these scriptures that will sink into your spirit. Each morning read the chapter for the day for example if today is the first, then read verses found in Proverbs chapter 1. In doing this you will begin to add these daily into your mind and spirit to be pulled upon when situations arise to adjust your attitude and courses of action. Of course, always remember to pray asking for wisdom and understanding.
God’s promises are found throughout the Bible beginning with “whoever calls on the name of the LORD Shall be saved” Acts 2:21. Believers can live a life of expectation because of Jesus’ promise, “I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also” John 14. We can be assured that when we slip, “if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” 1 John 1:9.
If you are reading Proverbs daily and learning from the wisdom of God then James 4:8, which says “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you” will keep you encouraged to continue to read the Bible to build a deeper and stronger relationship with Him.
Don’t let people get you discouraged always remember God’s promises to you. They are not dependent on the will of anyone else but on only His, which is unchanging. As a believer, line up your life with the word of God and continue to increase your knowledge and understanding and it will get easier to follow the examples that have been laid out for us.
Just as the book of Proverbs gives us wisdom, the book of Psalms gives us praise. These two books together will give you a great balance for your daily reading. Take the time daily to read from each. We must spend time learning and getting a deeper understanding of God as well as take time to praise Him for all He has done. Remember, God inhabits the praises of His people.
God’s Blessings!
