My Dilemma

My Dilemma
I have a dilemma this Thursday night at 6.00pm here in Indiana, USA.

Every now and then all writers face this same dilemma . My fellow Editors will all concur with that, especially when they’re under the gun and have a deadline to meet.
When ,even through no fault of their own ( see how I’m excusing myself ---lol), time, other responsibilities and (probably mostly) procrastination leave them grasping at writing straws , and nothing comes from the mind to the pen ( or in this case, to the word processor). That deadline continues to loom closer and closer and still, nothing comes.

It’s called “writer’s block” !

It’s that moment that occurs in the best of writers, in the fairly good writers, in the mediocre and also in the rest of us . (That’s a feeble attempt at Irish humor!!!! But of course , we Irish are experts at deprecating humor! Since everyone else puts us down, we’ve learned to do it better than all of them !).

Anyway, this “Writer’s Block” problem is only solved by tenacity and persistence. At least, that’s what the professors all said in Writing School ------- “Stick with it!! Don’t give up !!! Brilliance will shine through !!”

Yeah right !!! I’ve been “sticking” and “not giving” ----but still No Brilliance!!

I’m sitting here in my office, at my computer. It’s getting dark outside. It’s been snowing and the wind is blowing and there’s more on the way, and my office is not the warmest place in the whole world.
Ahhhhh----Poor me!!! Poor me!!!

Hmmmm??? 267 words so far and not a glimmer of brilliance, never mind it “shining through”. LOL

Well let’s keep going!! As I was saying ---well I wasn’t actually saying this, but now I’m going to ----- the human mind is a fascinating thing ---even an Irishman’s (more feeble humor!). It can produce the most magnificent artwork even imagined, sculptures that can take the breath away, poetry that can bring tears to the eyes of even the most hardened cynic ------ and yet ---- for one unhappy, lonely and unproductive Irish writer ( that’s me!) , it can’t produce 500 words?????????

Woe is me !!!! Come on --anyone out there with some TLC ?????

382 words ----and not only is there still no brilliance, but the wee bit o’ light that was glimmering is getting duller and duller by the moment.

I’m even surprised you’ve kept reading this far.

Well that’s about it ! No brilliance ! No shine through ! Even the wee glimmer has disappeared! Oh well ---such is life.

By the way, why do I feel I have been sitting here talking to myself??

Which reminds me of this:

When are the only two occasions an Irishman can have his most intelligent conversation ???

When he talks to himself !! or when he talks to the Almighty !!!

Goodness that was pathetic!!

Hopefully, something better next week.

Thanks for your time!
