Bird Toys - Make a Fall Sandwich

Bird Toys - Make a Fall Sandwich
My friend Teresa Schnurr is a wiz at making toys for her birds and she has agreed to let me post this one with instructions for you to make your own toy. You can see more of her creations at her website Companion Fids

This toy is a great toy for the parrot that loves to shred their toys.

Items Needed:
  • hemp cord

  • plastic disc

  • two plastic beads (medium and large)

  • one small seagrass basket

  • one package of large muffin cups

  • quick link

  • Process:
First drill a hole in the large plastic disc (shown here in yellow).  Also drill a hole in the muffin cups.

Then take the muffin cups and cut them into 8 sections (as shown).  Next take your hemp cord and tie a knot in the bottom.  Add the smaller plastic bead, then your seagrass basket, tie a knot, then add your larger plastic bead (as shown).  This larger plastic bead adds space prior to the muffin cups.  Tie another knot.

Next take your cut muffin cups and place them one at a time on the hemp cord alternating their direction.  One up, one down.  It is the alternating of the muffin cups that creates the full appearance when complete.

Add the large plastic disc to complete the sandwich look.  Tie a knot.  Add your quick link with a number of knots.

If desired add foraging nuts under the plastic disc for added fun.

This muffin cup toy was inspired by the yahoo group and website of

Also please note that you can do this with coffee filters instead of muffin cups.

One of Teresa's beautiful birds - Hunter, who enjoys trying out all the new toys that she makes.
