Where to find accommodation

Where to find accommodation
Accommodation in Spain is plentiful, from humble hostels to luxurious full-catering villas. From seafront properties to rustic rural retreats it’s all here. What is your ideal holiday? Is it surfing? A language learning course? Or sunbathing on the beach? What about a holiday where you can ski in the mornings and sunbathe in the afternoon? Or maybe an activity holiday with canoeing and climbing?

With superb historical monuments from Roman aqueducts and Islamic palaces to Renaissance cathedrals and Moorish castles each city and town has a visible past in the incredible buildings on show.

Museums and art galleries abound and it’s no wonder as Spain is the home to some of the world’s greatest artists, El Greco, Goya, Dali and Picasso to mention just some of the big names, and of course each has a museum or more to commemorate their lives and works.

From cool, damp Green Spain on the northern Atlantic coast to the dry arid deserts of Almeria, Europe’s only desert, to Extremadura (extremely hard) on the Portuguese coast there are tens of different sides of Spain, each uniquely worthy of exploration.

The choice of destination is very difficult, personally I think it’s better to pick one or two destinations or cities and stay in them to really experience their uniqueness. But saying, that many people come and stay in our holiday home and visit Baeza, Cordoba, Jaen, Granada, Seville and Ubeda for a day trip and say they were all fantastic and were really pleased to have been able to see so much in such a short trip. Me I’d need a holiday at the end of that lot!

There are many, many Internet sites now offering an enormous range of accommodation, so it’s hard to know where to begin.

I looked at many of the sites offering accommodation when looking into where we should advertise and found a bewildering array of choice. Now just three years later it’s as if the choice has doubled, and I get almost as many invitations to advertsie on various sites as enquires for the accommodation itself.

So where to begin?

Toprural is a popular Spanish site, with most of the properties being owned by the Spanish and having to be legally registered by the local authority. It cover the whole of Spain plus the islands.

Villarentersis another really good site, which has world-wide coverage including nearly three thousand Spanish properties.

If you do use one of these companies I’d love to hear your feed back or any recommendations you might have.
