Errant in Iberia by Ben Curtis

Guest Author - Rachel L Webb

According to my dictionary the first meaning of errant is, doing wrong; erring and the second meaning is, wandering in search of adventure.

I’m not going to give away which it meant to me, you’ll have to read it yourself. It’s an enjoyable read, describing why Ben was moved to leave the U.K, through his ups and downs, joys and misunderstandings to a satisfactory ending.

Errant in Iberia covers the first three daunting and wonderful years of his life in Spain. Basing himself in Madrid, Ben takes us on several jaunts around the vast and different Spain he’s discovering and enjoying.

From his first downhill entry into Spain via the Pyranees he’s hooked on the magical land that captivates all visitors. He had the luck or guts to make it more than a visit; he makes it his life and takes us along with him through his learning curves and language difficulties.

He brings to “the good life” or dream of many, a reality that has it’s bad moments like nowhere to live and its highs as he buys a flat and the builders actually do the job he’s asked for, complete it and leave.

A place of his own in a land not his own, is not what he had planned. The vague plan had been a short visit to Spain and taking some photographs while there. This book takes us through the fumbling and mumbling in a city where he could hardly speak the language. He learnt.

Ben describes Spanish culture and the Madrid scene with fresh eyes and takes us with him on his journey through a new life, romances and putting down roots.

Errant in Iberia is a refreshing change from the plethora of new life books from rustic retreats in the countryside, it’s the story of a young man, free, single and sick of life in London, who finds himself in a life he didn’t plan. So far it’s all going well – very well. Will there be a follow up Ben?

The book end in a toast Un brindis to life. A new life ….Viva…….

I’m good at secrets, you will have to read the book to find out the end, and then it might not even be the end, but the beginning.
