Death In Islam

Death In Islam
We can never know the day of our death or which land we will die in (31:34) but one thing we can be sure of is that we will die. It is the angels who do God’s bidding and take our souls from our bodies at the moment of our death. How will it be when the angels cause them to die? (47:27).

Chapter 79, verses 1 and 2
By the angels who violently pull out the souls of the wicked, and by those who gently draw out the souls of the blessed.

Death is like sleep when our souls leave our bodies. When death comes to a human being it will know whether its final destination is to be heaven or hell. Death comes with dreams as the dead disbelievers will see hell morning and evening and on the Day of Resurrection (40:46). When the angels take the disbelievers they beat them up, smacking their faces and their behinds and telling them to taste the punishment of burning (8:50).

Chapter 6, verse 60
It is He who takes your souls by night, and has knowledge of all that you have done by day. In the morning He raises you up again until your appointed term be fulfilled then in the end unto Him will be your return; then will He show you the truth of all that you did.

Once the soul has been taken from the body by the angels it can never return to the earthly realm. No one comes back as a ghost. The soul has left this dimension and now resides in a different dimension where it waits until the Day of Judgement.

Chapter 23, verses 99-100
Until when death overtakes one of them, he says. “Send me back, my Lord, send me back. I will then work righteousness in everything I left." Not true. This is a false claim that he makes. A barrier will separate his soul from this world until resurrection.

Death comes to everything. Everything has a predetermined time limit. God tells us in the Quran that no soul can ever die except by God’s leave and at an appointed time. Whoever wants the reward of this world, God gives it to them; and those whoever wants the reward of the Hereafter, God gives it to them (3:145). God rewards the thankful.

No one lives a moment longer or less than they are destined to live. There are no premature deaths. The time of our death is known only to God and we die at different stages of our lives. Some of us die before birth while others die at a young age. Others live to a very old age only to discover that there is a limit to what we can learn (16:70).

Why did God create us? God tells us in many verses of the Quran that everything was created for a specific purpose but the following two verses explain why life and death exist.

Chapter 51, verse 56
I did not create the jinns and the humans except to worship Me alone.

Chapter 67, verse 2
The One who created death and life for the purpose of distinguishing those among you who would do better. He is the Almighty, the Forgiving.
