David Power Uilleann Pipe Concert

David Power Uilleann Pipe Concert
County Waterford native David Power is a virtuoso uilleann piper worthy of mention in the same breath as legendary players like Leo Rowsome or contemporary greats like Liam O'Flynn. He is a master of the classic piping repertoire and of all the technical aspects of playing his distinctive and difficult instrument. Most modern uilleann pipers treat the "regulators," the chordal accompaniment pipes that supplement the drones and chanter, as little more than decoration. David gives his regulators a solid workout, even letting them carry the melody on occasion. He also varies the tempo to great effect in concert and is a magnificent player of majestic slow airs borrowed from the sean nós singers' repertoire. This performance will be a solo piping recital, which will show off David's ability to exploit the uilleann pipes' self-accompanying capabilities and will also be in keeping with his soon-to-be released solo recording on the Claddagh label.
