Using the Color Orange in Healing

Using the Color Orange in Healing
Orange is a warming color which carries a feeling of wellbeing and fuels our creativity. Its vibrancy is enlivening and it can lift us out of despondency into a creative and positive state.

Orange sits between red and yellow on the spectrum. It has much of the invigorating nature of red without overpowering those who would find red too much to handle. Equally it contains the anti-depressant, sunny character of yellow. It is a colour that imbues us with a feeling of encouragement, literally giving us the courage to handle situations and face life with a positive outlook and ‘can do’ attitude.

As orange is the main color we associate with the sacral chakra you could use it to alleviate health problems related to this area, such as menstrual or bladder issues. This is also a centre of our emotions and a place where we can store much hurt and upset leading to congested sacral energy that may affect us physically and hold us back creatively. Sacral has the same root as sacred and it is interesting that Buddhist monks wear orange robes. The sacral is a sacred place of creation in our bodies, after all what could be more creative and Divine than making new life?

You can lie down and place an orange scarf over the lower abdomen, use orange light, or choose an orange stone to place there. My favourite is the easily accessible and affordable carnelian, but you could also try sunstone or orange calcite. I like to place three carnelians in a gentle u shape on the lower abdomen if healing in this area.

It is hard to think of orange in the English language without thinking of the fruit of the same name and oranges encapsulate the juicy nature of the color perfectly. Eating orange fruits, or orange vegetables such as carrots and sweet potato, will boost your immune system and bring orange energy directly into the body.

Bright orange is a color that many people would shrink from wearing or using in home decor, but it is easier to wear the orangey russets of Autumn, or to live with pale peachy shades. These won’t have such a direct therapeutic effect as bright orange, but you can still get some benefit from these shades. In the home you might consider having some orange accessories, perhaps orange utensils in the kitchen, or cushions, an orange throw, or an orange folder for a creative project.

Perhaps easier to handle are bright orange flowers. A bunch of tiger lilies will create a great splash of color, or you could plant marigolds or calendulas in the garden. Meditate on a beautiful orange flower and you will feel the color boost your energy and lift your mood.

This Color lamp is an easy way to work with any color in the spectrum.
