Even though these terms are often used interchangeably, being psychic is actually different from being intuitive.

Intuition

Intuition is an ability present within everyone, though not everyone may call it intuition. Some people may say they had a gut feeling about something, or they may feel that their instincts guided them.

Intuition is divine guidance channeled through the third chakra, or Solar Plexus. It is generally information that guides you forward a step at a time, and you’ll rarely see the bigger picture until you’ve followed your intuition through several steps.

I had a client who felt intuitively guided to take a class in mythology. She’d been asking for guidance about her career, and was open to following her intuition.

After she’d been in this class for several weeks, they touched on Chinese mythology, during which she discovered that she had a very strong connection to the culture (even though she’d never thought about it before). This led to her discovering a job in China where she lived for a year and had a tremendous experience before returning home to the U.S.

Intuitive guidance doesn’t always make sense, because you are only receiving a bit of information at a time. You strengthen your intuition by acting on it as you receive it. This takes a great deal of trust and faith, because intuitive guidance will generally take you out of your comfort zone, as it’s guiding you toward bigger and brighter living. It’s much like the GPS in your car - it will only tell you the next turn to take. Imagine how confused you’d be if it shouted out the entire trip at once! So intuition is a step at a time, and you have to take the first step to get your next direction.

Psychic Abilities

Psychic information is usually clarity about a specific thing. One time I was doing energy work on a client who didn’t speak English, so our session was very quiet. However, I kept hearing “Crab Apple” in my head as I worked on her. After our session was over, her friend (and interpreter) told me that she was also interested in using flower essences. As she started to tell me of her friend’s symptoms, I knew immediately what she needed; Crab Apple.

Psychic information is channeled through the sixth chakra, or Third Eye, and it builds on intuitive information. However it presents as much more than just a gut feeling or hunch.

Clairvoyance (clear vision): When you receive a clear picture of the psychic information.

Clairaudience (clear hearing): When you clearly hear psychic information, either in your head, or as whispered in your ear.

Clairsentience (clear feeling, or sensation): This is clearly feeling (or sensing) the information, and can feel intuitive, though again, it’s probably directed at a specific question, or issue.

Claircognizance (clear knowing): You just know something, and don’t know how you know, or where the information came from; you just know.

Psychic information may not make sense when it’s for someone else (like when I kept hearing Crab Apple), so you just have to trust when you share the information that to the other person it will make sense.

And sometimes when you ask for psychic information about a specific issue in your own life, it may not make sense right away. Sometimes you have to let a little time pass before the information makes sense.

Everyone is intuitive, and I would even go so far as to say that everyone is capable of developing the skills necessary to receive and share psychic information too - if they really want to do it. But as with anything it takes trust and commitment, and requires taking action on the guidance you do receive.
