This is the perfect time of year to catch up on business reading. I have selected four of my favorite business-oriented books I believe you will find informative and interesting. I’ve read them all myself and thoroughly enjoyed each one. Happy summer reading!
It’s time to pour your favorite cold beverage, curl up in your favorite chair, and have pen and paper handy to make notes and jot down your business-building “aha’s.”

1. The Greatest Salesman in the World – Og Mandino
I’m a huge fan of Og Mandino and have read and reviewed several of his books and yet, his most famous book stayed unopened on my bookshelf. Published in 1968 this small book has become a classic “must read” for success-oriented people around the globe.
This quick read 128 page book is for everyone, not just people in sales.
The Greatest Salesman in the World tells the story of Hafid, a poor camel boy who is given a box containing ten scrolls. As he follows the messages on these scrolls, he becomes the greatest salesman in the world. The ten scrolls each contain a powerful principle of success. Each scroll must be read for 30 days, three times a day.
2. Shark Tales – Barbara Corcoran
The subtitle caught my attention – How I Turned $1,000 into a Billion Dollar Business. I quickly grabbed Shark Tales by Barbara Corcoran off the bookstore shelf and headed toward the check out counter. I was ready to learn the ins and outs of being a moneymaking entrepreneur.

If you are looking for a good believable success story filled with business-building tips, then you’ll want to make time to read Shark Tales. I thoroughly enjoyed every page!
Barbara’s book is a story of growing up in a big family and how she learned to stand out from the crowd – lessons that she readily applied to the business world.
3. Millionaire Messenger – Brendon Burchard
My philosophy is that if you read a book and come away with at least one “pearl of wisdom,” it was well worth your time and effort. Honestly, I came away with more than one idea and renewed enthusiasm for creating some new informational products.

My recommendation: If you are considering writing a how-to book or developing informational products, this book could spark new ideas and also give you some practical business-building tips.
Remember, the author does not make promises that you will become a millionaire. But, in The Millionaire Messenger – Make a Difference and a Fortune Sharing Your Advice, Brendon Burchard does share his experiences and has included the experiences and stories of other successful entrepreneurs.
4. Promise Me – Nancy G. Brinker
Promise Me – How a Sister’s Love Launched the Global Movement to End Breast Cancer by Nancy G. Brinker is a powerful story of love, purpose and determination. Promise Me shows all of us how a simple promise can become an unstoppable mission to change the world.

I thoroughly enjoy reading about how women, like you and me, can take an idea or a purpose and grow it into a business, an organization or a life-altering cause. Promise Me is the story of two sisters from Peoria, Illinois who grew up believing that they could make a difference by finding a cause, standing behind that cause and taking positive action. Even as youngsters, Susan and Nancy Goodman believed they had the power to make a positive difference in the lives of others.
