Many years ago I realized that I wasn’t focused on my goals – the goals that could make my business grow. I thought I was taking my business seriously because I was certainly putting in the time and effort. I bought the books, went to the classes, set up my office and did everything I knew I should do to become a “woman in business.”
I found myself emotionally and physically taking what I call the “buckshot” approach to business. You know what I mean - trying everything, listening to everyone and hoping something would work. I would quickly lose interest in one thing and go on to the next. I was a “wandering generality.” I couldn’t stay focused on the big picture. I was getting frustrated and discouraged. Then I decided to take a look at how seriously I was taking my business. I was truly surprised at what I discovered – I hadn’t developed an entrepreneurial mindset.
I decided to come up with a business-building checklist to help me move forward in positive, business-building ways. Here’s my checklist and may be it will help you too:
1. I have a clear vision for my business – I have clearly defined “how” my business is going to serve my target market.
2. I have a written mission statement for my business – My mission statement is the “what” I intend to achieve during the coming year.
3. I have clearly defined goals for my business – I know what I want to accomplish within the next weeks, months and years.
4. I have written my business goals out for the next months and years – I have a beginning date and completion date for my goals.
5. I have developed a well thought out plan of action for accomplishing my goals – I have a well written yet, workable business plan of action.
6. I have dedicated “office” hours – Whether I work in or out of the home, my friends and family know when I’m doing business and will honor my workday time.
7. I have a workable marketing plan of action – I know how I will promote my business - Internet, professional networking events, email marketing, social media, video, etc.
8. I have committed to meeting with those mentors, coaches and successful women who can offer suggestions and advice.
9. I have committed to working my business consistently – I can work my business full time or part time but not sometime and expect to make money.
10. I have determined my most important moneymaking activities – Moneymaking activities are those activities that will make money now or in the near future.
11. I have committed to taking the classes, seminars and working with the coaches that will support my personal and professional growth.
12. I believe that making money is an important aspect of being a successful woman in business.
13. I have scheduled FUN time for family and friends – All work and no play can lead to burn out and dissatisfaction.
Do you think this business-building checklist will help keep you going forward in positive productive ways?
