Two Quick Tips for Keeping Cool
If you are living in the United States right now, we are all deep into Summer and I can pretty much bet that whereever you are, it's HOT! This summer has been one of extreme temperatures in most places and everyone is looking for ways to keep cool. I've compiled for myself a simple list of things to have on hand or to do for myself to keep cool and calm and relaxed this summer – all of which go hand in hand for an enjoyable time outside rather than an unbearable one.
Cool Tip #1
The most basic and also the easiest to forget, staying hydrated through these scorching months is super important. Make sure that no matter where you go, you take a water bottle filled with ice and water with you. Go ahead and grab an extra bag to put it in so that it's easy to carry on your shoulder without tying up your hands. Sometimes when we've got too many things to grab with your hands, it's easy to let something like a water bottle slip into the not important range. However it's probably THE most important thing to keep with you all summer. Be sustainable and eco conscious by buying a container you can refill over and over.
Cool Tip #2
Does your skin flare up with sun exposure? Mine does and it's an annoying occurrence. Not only does my skin get red and rashy, it starts to itch like crazy – really uncomfortable to say the least! I head this off by keeping two things with me – homemade skin soothing body oil or lotion. Both of these are very easy and worth it to make. In both, you'll be using essential oils Tea Tree and Lavender. Both of these essential oils have been shown to reduce drastically itchiness and flare up from conditions like excema and other general skin irritations. I've used these myself and they always help. If I use them before I go out, they can even prevent the breakouts all together.
The recipes are below.
Soothing Body Oil
2oz of Olive Oil
20 drops of Tea Tree Essential Oil
20 drops of Lavender Essential Oil
Put this in a plastic squeeze bottle and make sure you shake this very well before everytime you apply it. You wont need a lot at all, just make sure that all parts of your skin that are prone to breakouts or are flaring up are adequately covered.
Soothing Body Lotion
2oz of unscented natural lotion (for instance the 365 Brand of unscented lotion at Whole Foods)
With these tips you can get out and enjoy your summer even more now!
