13 Accounts of Jesus' Resurrection in the Bible
Jesus’ resurrection is one of the most important events in the Christian faith. Without Jesus’ resurrection, there is no proof of salvation or eternal life. The Bible testifies about Jesus’ resurrection and documents multiple times in which Jesus appeared to others. Here are 13 Biblical instances where Jesus made resurrection appearances.
1. Jesus appeared on Resurrection Sunday at the empty tomb. This resurrection appearance occurred in Jerusalem.
This event was documented in the four Gospels and may be found in Matthew 28: 1-8; Mark 16: 1-8; Luke 24: 1-12; and John 20:1-10.
2. Jesus appeared on Resurrection Sunday to Mary Magdalene. The event occurred in the Garden near the tomb in Jerusalem.

3. Jesus appeared to the other women on Resurrection Sunday, also in Jerusalem. This appearance is found in only one Gospel. You may read it in Matthew 28: 9-10.

6. Jesus appeared to 11 disciples in the Upper Room on Resurrection Sunday. This event happened in Jerusalem and was documented in Luke and John.

7. Jesus appeared to 11 disciples in the Upper Room on the Sunday following Resurrection Sunday. This was documented in Mark, John, and the book of Acts.

8. Jesus appeared to seven disciples that were fishing in the Sea of Galilee after the previous account; however, the exact time is unknown. The event was documented in John 21: 1-23.
9. Jesus appeared to 11 disciples on a mountain in Galilee. The exact date for this resurrection appearance is unknown. It was recorded in Matthew 28: 16-20 and Mark 16:15-18.
10. Jesus’ greatest resurrection appearance was to more than 500 people. The exact place where the event occurred is unknown, as well as the time. It is recorded in 1 Corinthians 15:6.
11. Following the appearance to more than 500 people, is a resurrection appearance to James. This is recorded in 1 Corinthians 15:7.
12. Jesus appeared to His disciples at his ascension. This occurred 40 days after Jesus’ resurrection and is known as the ascension. It took place on the Mount of Olives and the disciples reported watching Jesus lift into the sky and disappear in the clouds. The account is recorded in Luke 24: 36-51 and Acts 13:9.
13. The final resurrection encounter with Jesus that occurs in the Bible is the visitation to Paul on the road to Damascus. The event occurred several years after Jesus death and resurrection. The account is recorded in Acts 9: 1-9; 22: 3-16; 26: 9-18 and in 1 Corinthians 9:1 and 15:8.
