Kristie is the mother of a son who has autism. As is common for many parents of children with special needs, she embarked years ago on a journey filled with hopes, joys, challenges and shared victories. Serving on several disability-related boards of directors, being appointed to her home State´s Governor´s Council on Developmental Disabilities and participating on the University of Arizona´s President´s Disability Advisory Council all contributed to the learning and desire to share information that she hoped might be of benefit to her son and to others in their pursuit to best understand and support their loved one with special needs.

Kristie also worked for the Arizona Department of Education and the University of Arizona´s University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) where she endeavored to provide information, resources and linkages to community support for self-advocates, families, educators, administrators and others.

A philosophy that attempts to encompass collaboration, team-building and inspired action is what constitutes the foundation of her work, both personally and professionally. It is Kristie´s hope that this "voice" will be evident in her articles and commentary.
