About the BellaOnline African American Lit Editor

Welcome to the African American Literature site and thank you so much for stopping by. I’m an avid reader who still loves holding a copy of a good book in my hands. I own more than 350 books, many of which are African American Classics.

I was born and raised in Norfolk, VA. However, by the age of 18, I was in the Military traveling the World. I’ve lived in: Germany, Hawaii, Washington, Colorado, Maryland, and now in Duluth, GA. I’ve traveled to Paris, London, Amsterdam and all across the United States from Oregon, Montana and the Dakotas to Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Kentucky. I’ve visited States from New York, New Jersey, and Delaware, to the Carolina’s.

Reading books changed my life. Due to a number of tragedies early on in life, I barely graduated from High School. I graduated with a 1.3 GPA. I remember my Guidance Counselor telling me not to bother taking the SAT because I wasn´t College material. Since my adopted mother was in a coma at the time of my graduation, up until a few hours prior to the ceremony I hadn´t even planned to attend. I did end up going alone. It would be 8 years later, before I discovered a whole new world in between the pages of books. And I discovered that my GPA wasn´t a reflection of my intelligence.

My real love for African American Literature was not ignited until I moved to Cockeysville, MD and attended the Historically Black Morgan State University in Baltimore, MD. It was at Morgan State, that I was introduced to one of my favorite African American women writers: Zora Neale Hurston, author of “Their Eyes Were Watching God.” This was years before Oprah would turn the book into a made for T.V movie. It was there, I fell in love with Richard Wright, Langston Hughes, Toni Morrison, Maya Angelou, and others. My favorite genre is spiritual, inspirational, non-fictional, self-help books. T.D. Jakes and Joyce Meyer are two of my favorite inspirational writers. The words conveyed on paper by these incredible writers have consistently transformed my thinking, encouraged my spirit, and changed my life.

My affection towards books complemented my life-long dream of being a Published Author, myself, one day. Today, I am Founder & President/CEO of Royal Treasures Publishing [RTP] and the Author of “Tragic Treasures: Discovery Spoils of War in the Midst of Tragedy” which was named "Best Inspirational Book of the Year [2010]" by Disilgold Magazine. Check out www.royaltreasurespublishing.com and order your autographed copy of my inspirational memoir. I’m currently working on my 2nd non-fictional, inspirational book to be released in Spring 2012. While at RTP website please feel free to sign up for RTP email newsletters and read the latest reviews.

I’ve been an Inspirational Speaker for more than a decade. I am a Transformational Life Coach. This year I launched "Transforming Life Institute" dedicated to transforming the lives of others one thought at a time. My motto: “live fearlessly, love freely, and laugh endlessly. My mantra: “I would rather risk rejection and fail, then never try and live with regret.” I believe we can transform our lives one thought at a time. Visit my blog for more on that at www.transformation247.wordpress.com. I am also the co-host of "Becoming Who I AM" which airs live every Sat at 8am on Blogtalk Radio. You can actually find me all over the Internet from Facebook to Twitter. Just Google me :-).

I hope that you enjoy the subjects and visit this site weekly for new articles, interviews, book reviews, and discussions. I would love to hear from you. I welcome your emails and feedback. I encourage you to participate by reading books along with me and joining the forum discussions before, during, and afterwards. Also, don’t forget to sign up for the African American Literature newsletter. The newsletter will provide a sneak-peak into what I’m reading next, what articles are being written, which authors are being interviewed, and other interesting things about African American Literature.

If you are interested in submitting your published book for review consideration, please observe the following guidelines:

•Books submitted for review consideration will not be returned

•You will receive email notification when I receive your book

•If your book is not accepted for review, it will not be returned, it will be
donated

•Every effort will be made to read books within 12 weeks

•I will accept edited galleys or finished copies

•I will also post my review to Amazon.com, if your book is listed when the
review is completed

•I do not review Short Stories, Poetry, or E-books

Remember, enjoying African American Literature has nothing to do with your skin color. All you need at this site is a love for reading, the “gift of gab”, and the ability to keep up with me. LOL! I am very excited about discussing great African American Literature with YOU! I hope to hear from you soon!
