Recommended books on breastfeeding

Mama's Milk – Book Review star
My review of the lovely children's book about nursing in the human and animal world -- Mama's Milk by Michael Elsohn Ross and Ashley Wolff.

Mommy Breastfeeds Our Baby -- Book Review star
Mommy Breastfeeds Our Baby is a lovely little children's book. Best for an older sister (but could be read for an older brother) it describes the benefits of breastfeeding in a way children can understand and shows breastfeeding in varied and tasteful locations and positions.

The Baby Book - Sears star[offsite link]
While not specifically a breastfeeding book, this book is a must for every parent, new or experienced! Covers common and uncommon child-rearing and medical topics for children through age two

The Breastfeeding Book - Sears star[offsite link]
This book is a fantastic reference for anyone even considering breastfeeding their child. Includes information on nursing the adopted child, the child with special needs, tandem, and extended nursing.

The Breastfeeding Diaries - Review star
A cute gift for a nursing mom, "The Breatfeeding Diaries: Real Moms Share Their Funniest Misadventures" edited by Kate Davis, offers short, easy-to-read tales about various breastfeeding related mishaps and embarrassing moments. There's even a lesson or two hidden in there, if you're in the mood.

The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding - La Leche League star[offsite link]
This thick book is full of support for the breastfeeding mother and is a good place to start your research. It does heavily encourage mothers to join the LLL, however. Most anything you need to know about nursing can be found in this volume.

What Baby Needs -- Book Review star
What Baby Needs, part of the Sears Children's Library, is a must-have book for families with a soon-to-be older sibling who plan to breastfeed (and possibly practice other forms of attachment parenting). This is a great shower gift for a second (or third or more)-time breastfeeding mama!
