Art as US Stamps
Art Appreciation Information
Abstract Expressionism Adorns US Stamps In March 2010, the United States Postal Service issued 44 cent stamps with images from ten paintings by abstract expressionists. Another American institution, the Smithsonian Hirshhorn Museum has paintings from this era on exhibition. Angels in Art - US Postage Stamps The first US postage stamps were issued in 1847: Benjamin Franklin on a five cent stamp and George Washington on a ten cent stamp. The first angel (a weathervane of an angel holding a trumpet) appeared in 1965 on the US Christmas stamp. Other angel stamps would follow in subsequent years.
