Days of Remembrance At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
First Woman Military Test Pilot Military test pilot, French Resistance fighter, survivor of a disfiguring airplane crash and the subsequent operations, repeatedly recognized as one of the fastest flyers in the world -- Jacqueline Marie-Thérèse Suzanne Douet Auriol laid the ground-work for women military veterans to proudly follow. First Woman to Fly a Bomber Lettice Curtis was the first of twelve women chosen to attain Class 5. As such, she is the first woman to fly a bomber. She flew the Avro Lancaster bomber. Asked why she didn't press to fly in battle: "There was no question of it, and it was not a question you asked. It just never came up." Loose Lips Sink Ships Does freedom of speech mean we have no need of censorship? Does it mean we have no responsibility for the consequences of what we say and write - or post on-line? How do you feel about freedom of speech, censorship, and WikiLeaks? Show Your Support on Veterans’ Day Little things. Simple things. Things which could easily become a part of your every day life. Here are twenty little things you can do which will show our Veterans your support. The Significance of the Poppy The poppy is associated with service to one’s country and is used to commemorate those who died fighting for their county. If you are from a generation after WWII, you may recognize the symbol but have you given much thought as to why that particular flower was used? The So Called News - News Failure In War Coverage The Sunday Newspaper has something missing. There is no immediate coverage of the wars that America is embroiled in. It's been replaced by so-called "reality" coverage. Where has our news gone?
Veterans Day It sounds like something JRR Tolkien might have penned as a day of destiny, the end of a quest, an hour set aside for magical powers and the alignment of planets foretelling the future or – as it does – immortalizing the past.
