Route 50

Cesca Adey

Snake-dry
Golden backed desert
Desolate in emptiness
Nevada
Hazy distance
Road pours through hills
Never-ending
A piece of silence
Life is in another world
Three dead black cows
A woman wandering alone
No cars for miles
Route 50
Fear of petrol drying up
Fear of burning up
Fear of not making the next hill
Crawling on in search
Of the next desolate town
Suspended in dust
An oasis
Ever eluding
Under a merciless sun
