First elm and chestnut, now the ash
becomes more dim
And skeletal. Each lightning flash,
each fallen limb

Incontrovertibly makes clear
that what we thought
Was meant to last will disappear
back into what

We cannot fathom vanished tree
where mourning dove,
Transfigured by that tracery,
still sings thereof.
