Exiled

Patricia Williams

I dreamed of returning home that first spring.

Walking along the river last summer,
under burnished moonlight,
I saw reflections of alien scenery
and missed home even more.

In autumn, my coat was drenched with tears.

When snowflakes cover me, I will still be here
alone, and longing for home.
