Richard Schnap

The yellowed leaves fall like pages of a book
The latest volume of an endless epic
That chronicles a story of miracles and madness
Of glorious victories and deadly defeats
Where one child can grow to fabricate wonders
While another can rise to spill blood without cause
But now the wind whispers “To be continued”
As the final chapter disintegrates to dust

And then as the skeletal trees all slumber
While the sky spills its crystals of delicate ice
The anonymous author in his hidden chamber
Will begin to conceive of what shall come next
And maybe there’ll be a grand conclusion
Or only a sequel to what’s come before
A tapestry woven of joys and sorrows
Destined to continue till the end of time
