Jody Zolli

In the space between my words
My breathing draws me down
Into the whispered thoughts I sought
To idletask to death

Over the edge
Into the dark that spins
Along a spline
Of bone-white spine

Tap the vein
Draw the ink along
Arterial arc to fill
The fountain pen
That traces me
Mars me like parchment
When I run in the red

Momentary distraction
The surcease release
Clotting with a sigh
Staunching, stitching
The hunger over
Written in some
Wordless dialect
Only nightmares know
