Root Woman (For Sunshine)

Jackie Joice

I may be asked if I have found God
since this little ray of sunshine
made her way through the cosmos
and implanted herself in my womb

She now props her foot on my shoulder
as she sucks milk from my breasts
and plays while she drinks.
I may be asked if I have found God
since she smiles at me on early mornings
when my tongue is overnight dry and vision blurred

I answer, God never left
