Birdtree

Myroslava Stefaniuk

there is a bird tree growing in my yard
it started with a feeder and a single
seed that fell on fertile ground
and grew and grew until
it reached from earth to sky and
spread its branches wide
from east to west until
it reached from dawn to dusk
and still it grew until
birds flocked from every corner
continent and country perched
on its branches for all
to see and listen
to melodies and songs
in every key and tongue
and wonder
how such music came to be
in a small corner of my yard
with just a feeder and
a single seed
