I Will Slay The Dragon

Linda M. Crate

i will carry you
until the very end
you will never
die,
and your burdens will be known
if only to save others;
no one should have to suffer in silence
like you did
you were supposed to get better
the doctors were wrong
and the once strong oak of the forest fell softer
than a leaf crashing in the wind—
i will never remember
someone with such strength and such soul fire
i am certain as i recollect you;
but i will burn with my flames and rekindle yours to
life because you never should have died
the world needed you and i needed you and i know life is
extraordinarily unfair and cruel sometimes
but you didn´t deserve to die like that dragon took you
i will slay that dragon and lay his head
at your feet.
