From Water I Draw You Still

Marchell Dyon

You came to the world when I was in the shower.
From water I draw you still.
My golden child a fossil I could not keep.

In my dreams
I have drawn you from a flood of red waves.
I have named you Moses and breathe into you life.

In my dreams
I have made your boat out of papyrus leaves.
It sails forever down the Nile.

In my dreams
I am the Hebrew woman
A mother anxious in complicated times

A mother who watched form the shoreline
A mother who did not question her faith
A mother who afterwards, got to suckle her son

Although, these empty arms have turned to stone.
For you these arms still cradle
For you I am weeping to this very day.
