Someday This Will All Be Callous

Angela Freeman

ragged sky-streaks, soft and pink like scars.
the fade has a healing touch about it,
which i long for.

i have since learned
cancer-free doesn’t mean there is nothing
dark left inside of me.

i almost wish
i could have had that excised out instead.
be a survivor-saint.

cell ghosts, phantom ache. please, forgive me
for a life since wasted. i tried to be
hopeful. i did.
