If Nature Could Talk

Julie C. Johnson

If the tree shrieked loudly in blinding pain,
then would the logger hesitate to chop?
Would industrial air pollution wane,
if the clouds wheezed back with each toxic drop?

If all of nature was personified,
then would humans finally take action?
Would eco-friendly be declassified,
if plants had clear anthro-interaction?

Would zoos become a business defective,
if bears told why their cage did not suffice?
If a mountain voiced her rare perspective,
then would hikers take her seasoned advice?

If the climate was more relatable,
would change no longer be debatable?
