Changes

Nancylister Swayzee

In the secret garden of my heart
There dwells a place
A place of great beauty
Rich with color and texture
A place I created
In my young old age
When I was strong and vital

Now I am at the beginning of my
Old - old age. I am no longer strong
As I once was
I am no longer sure of my footing
As I once was
My vision is still good
Yet I see with different eyes
I look the same on the outside
But on the inside - I am changed
I thought it was surrender
Now I know it is wisdom

The world and everything in it
Is dynamic - not static
What you are looking at is changing
Even as you observe it
What appears as death and dying
Is the process of re-birth and renewal

So I walk in my garden, once so gloriously alive
And I see the beauty of its current state
The colors of death are more muted
Than the colors of life
They are the colors of the earth
To which they are returning
I allow my sorrow to be replaced
With acceptance
