Fearing the Drink

S. Babin

As a young boy I spent
hours in our white chair,

a statue with frozen hands
clinging to a ringed out phone.

The poor plastered chair sunk
from the weight of the wait.

Stared out our front window
at the barren tundra of an empty driveway,

waiting for mom
crying prayers.

Tears rolled.
