Villa Villanelle

Charlotte Zang

At a cozy little cottage in the south of France
Topaz tiles soak up the afternoon sun
Stop in to see it if you ever get the chance

Contemplating Tao te Ching on the expansive lawn
I look up to see Clooney and Pitt jog casually
Past this cozy little cottage in the south of France

Girls playing jacks, onesies, twosies, taps
Their giggles ripple and bounce, echoing, calling
Stop in to see us if you ever get the chance

The rake lays idle against the workshop door
Full red wine blurs the scene
Cozy little cottage in the south of France

Beautiful people float by in sunglass masks
Oblivious to the great unwashed
Stop in, try to see them if you ever get the chance

Cedar and pine whisper
An invitation to the privileged few
Cozy little cottage in the south of France
Stop in to see it if you ever get the chance.
