The Storyteller

Stephanie Parent

I open my mouth and nothing comes out.

I open my ears and

fear rushes in. I let out my breath and
thread shoots on

down. To the ground. Red as a thief,
coiled like a snake, it unslinks
itself and

I must follow
blind. The spool pulses in my palm,

a heartbeat. Will

you come follow me
down?
