What’s happening elsewhere in the world during March? The annual Binche Carnival in the town of Binche, Belgium’s Wallonia Region. Binche Carnival is held three days before Lent.

Women’s History Month. In 1987 after being petitioned by the National Women’s History Project, Congress passed Pub. L. 100-9 which designated the month of March 1987 as “Women’s History Month." Between 1988 and 1994, Congress passed additional resolutions requesting and authorizing the President to proclaim March of each year as Women’s History Month. And don’t forget to celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8.

Music in Our Schools Month. The purpose of Music in Our Schools Month is to raise awareness of the importance of music education for all children, and to remind citizens that school is a prime location for children to have access to music.

Brain Awareness Week, March 12-18. A global campaign to increase public awareness of the progress and benefits of brain research. Events may include open days at neuroscience labs; exhibitions about the brain; lectures on brain-related topics; displays at libraries and community centers; classroom workshops; and more.
