Book trailers are quickly gaining popularity among publishers and authors to help promote books and get people reading again. A book trailer is very similar to a movie trailer. Some have live actors playing out parts of the book to catch your interest. Some are still pictures set to music to tell the mood of the books. And there are some with the author reading a passage from the book. Nearly all new books being pumped out for lazy summer reading have a book trailer to accompany it. In my opinion, a book trailer sometimes hooks you quicker then a 2 page press release!

The phrase "book trailer" has been trademarked by Sheila Clover of Circle of Seven Productions. The first book trailer to be played publicly was at a book convention in Shreveport, LA. in 2003. The trailer was for Dark Symphony by author Christine Feehan. Book trailers became more popular in the past few years in part to website like MySpace and FaceBook. It is easy to post YouTube videos or links directing your friends and acquaintances to view a video. Book trailers are free publicity tools. I have even been told by a few publicists a book trailer can make or break your book.

Watch Book Trailers

Book trailers have become so popular, it is not hard to find some to watch. A simple trip to YouTube.com and typing in the words "book trailer" produces over 50,000 results!

There are a few websites that are specifically just for promoting books with trailers.

BookTrailers.net is an excellent first stop. All of their books are on Youtube but there are descriptions of the books before you view the trailers.

Obviously Cirlce of Seven Productions is a great place to start at since they are responsible for the first one ever played. Their site is awesome but if you have a slow internet connection, it can take awhile for this to load.
