In continuing the Celebrity, Achieve This Look series, I watched a few movies starring Rene Russo. This lucky actress has luxuriously thick natural wavy hair most often worn below the shoulder in soft romantic waves. In the movie Get Shorty we saw it smooth and styled.

To get this look, you can blow your hair dry using a paddle brush and smoothing agents to straighten it. Then use a round brush or large curling iron to curl the ends under and to put soft wave around the face. A spritz of hair spray around the face will hold the sides back and the bangs up off the forehead.

For the wild natural curly tendrils as seen in the movie Outbreak, scrunch your hair as it dries using serums to fight frizz and gel or mousse keep the curls separate. When it is completely dry, comb it with your fingers only. For a change of style, catch the top of the hair loosely back with a barrette just below the crown leaving some tendrils falling around the face.

In both of these movies Ms. Russo´s hair color is a warm light blond with extra-light blond highlights. This can be achieved by highlighting with fine strands in two or three shades of blond over the entire head with a few larger strands of extra light blond around the face. Another method of creating this look is to tint all of the hair a light warm blond color and then highlighting it with an extra-light blond.

For the movie The Thomas Crown Affair, Ms Russo went thru and image and style transformation. Her hair was cut to just above the shoulder into a sophisticated bob with soft layers slightly flipped out at the nape. For this style, thin longish bangs are brushed to the side and layers in the front frame the face. Her hair is long enough to put up into a twist with pieces falling out around the face and in front of the ears.

To get the fullness of this style, blow dry with volume building agents and use large velcro rollers all over. Velcro rollers give fullness and shape without curls. Style using your fingers and not a brush. Light backcombing with a large pick will add fullness and control.

Ms Russo´s color was a dramatic change in this movie also, going to a medium auburn. The change from blond to auburn is often as easy as using a hair color glosser such as Redken´s Shades EQ. This color system will give shiny natural color that will gradually fade away without causing damage to the hair. When an auburn shade is applied over blond with blond highlights, the result is medium auburn with lighter auburn highlights. For a color change such as this and to avoid off color shades, it is best to consult a hairdresser.
