Choosing Flowers for Mother's Day
Your mother deserves the best. Choose an appropriate, meaningful gift for Mother’s Day.
Nothing can compare with Mother’s Day. For this holiday people spend more on gifts than they do for Valentine’s Day.
Choosing flowers isn’t easy. But there are ways to simplify the decision-making process. Let’s say her favorite color is blue or pink. That narrows it down quite a bit. With this knowledge you can then choose a suitable arrangement.
Perhaps she has a favorite flower. An entire bouquet could be made from this one kind. Or it could become the focal point of an arrangement in which other flowers are added as fillers.
Mother’s Day is special. It comes in the spring. That’s one reason spring-blooming flowers seem very appropriate for this special occasion. For example, peonies are an excellent choice. They come in various colors, but are most often white or pink. Peonies have a natural elegance all their very own.
Sweet peas are another spring flower. These have an old-fashioned charm that is bound to please most everyone. Maybe it is just their unusual shape that makes them so delightful. They just seem to express love. Sweet peas are available in numerous colors of white, pinks, reds, and sometimes purple. They come in solids and bicolors.
Of the other spring flowers, several are woody stems. These may or may not be in plentiful supply. So if you want these, please order well in advance to avoid disappointment. Lilac is probably the best-known spring flowering shrub. The fragrance is an added bonus. Snowballs are a kind of viburnum. As the name implies, they have giant, fluffy pure white blooms. Some of these may be scented as well.
Once you’ve selected the blooms, there’s another matter to discuss with the florist. That’s the container. To some mothers the container may be an important issue, while to others it is not. My mother always saved the nice ones. So I could tell they meant something to her.
Do include packets of floral preservatives with your fresh flower gifts. These prolong their vase life.
Besides fresh cut flowers there are other suitable choices for Mother’s Day. Everlastings are great for any special occasion. They’ll be around to spread your love around long after the holiday is over. Everlastings are available in various forms, such as wreaths and bouquets.
Pressed flower are a special form of everlasting. Pressed flower gifts are very suitable for Mother’s Day. I’ve seen very beautiful candles decorated with dried, pressed flowers. There are many other pressed flower items available as well.
Do shop early. Don’t wait until the last minute. By that time all the good flowers will be gone.
