Solid Perfumes as Holiday Gift Ideas
There's nothing like receiving a nice smelling perfume as a gift, especially if the person giving it knows your particular taste in scents. Perfumes are a wonderful way to introduce scents and scent blends into your world, whether it's solid or spray mist.
Solid perfumes go back to the days of the Egyptians. Unless you're working with a natural perfumer, you won't see a lot of solid perfumes on the market. That's no reason not to enjoy them though, You can easily make your own.
How To Create Solid Perfumes
Begin with the basics: Jojoba Oil, Beeswax and essential oils. You can create a single note perfume using one essential oil or a blend using two or more essential oils. You can layer these perfumes with other perfumes or wear them alone.
Beeswax will be the key to the texture of your perfume, firm enough to offer resistance but not to the point of cracking and drying out.
Here's what a basic recipe looks like:
Ingredients:
5 ml of Jojoba oil
20 drops of essential oil
1/2 heaping teaspoon grated beeswax
Small nonmetal pan for melting the beeswax
Lip balm jar or compact for finished perfume
Instructions:
Pour your Jojoba oil into a small bowl or cup. Then add the 20 drops of your perfume oil blend to the Jojoba oil. Melt the 1/2 heaping teaspoon of beeswax in a nonmetal pan or glass bowl sat in hot water. Stir your melted beeswax into your perfume blend.
Do not overheat the essential oils or the beeswax. Pour your mixture into your chosen container and let it set for about 15 minutes.
Of course this recipe can be altered, however, it's a good idea to keep detailed notes so that you have a handle on things as the consistency and aroma changes.
The ability to make your own solid perfume is a wonderful skill to have. You can whip up a gift at the drop of a hat. You can create perfume blends that will not only smell wonderful, you can also use them as treatment potions for different challenges.
