SpongeBob Still Soaks Up Laughs

SpongeBob Still Soaks Up Laughs
What is it about that sponge? Children love SpongeBob. I don’t know what it is, but that cartoon seems to draw them in like a magnet. They hear the theme music and come running! Even my one year old can sing the song, and he’s not even really allowed to watch it. Somehow though, it just sticks. Sometimes I hear it in my sleep.

I will admit, though, that I watch it too. It’s just genuinely entertaining. Many of the episodes are repeats for me (I’m sure my kids have seen them all many times, but there are still quite a few I’ve never seen), but there are still some surprises. At least once each episode, I laugh out loud. I can’t help myself. It’s just so crazy, you have to laugh. To show you what I mean, I’m going to countdown my five favorite SpongeBob scenes.

I should add, however, that I don’t think SpongeBob is appropriate for younger kids. Personally, I’d say 7/8 and older. Any younger than that and they either won’t get the jokes, or they’ll come away with some bad habits you don’t want them to repeat. Plus, some of the word play is a little inappropriate, even for those 7/8 year olds (in my opinion). I’m thinking of things like the fact that the city is called “Bikini Bottom”, or that one of his best friend’s names is “Sandy Cheeks”. Again, young kids won’t really get the subtlety, but do you really want then running around talking about “Sandy Cheeks in my bikini Bottom?” I think not.

So! Here is my countdown of the five funniest SpongeBob episodes:

5- F. U. N. Specifically, I like the song that SpongeBob tries to teach Plankton about the meaning of “FUN”. For SpongeBob, it means things like: “F- friends, U- you and me, and N- anywhere, anytime at all”. For Plankton: “F- fire that burns down the whole town, U- uranium bombs, N- no survivors”. Funny stuff!

4- Bubblestand- The episode where SpongeBob is demonstrating how he blows perfect, unusually- shaped bubbles. Specifically, his “Bring it around town!!!!”

3- Nasty Patty- SpongeBob and Mr. Krabs think that a phony health inspector is coming to inspect them, so they create a grotesque patty for him to eat. It’s really gross.

2- Chocolate With Nuts- SpongeBob and Patrick selling chocolate bars. They learn to “stretch the truth” in order to get people to buy. Funniest part is when they tell this old lady (and she is old!!!) that it will make her live forever, and he daughter (who is also old) is like “nooo!!!!!”

1- Sing a Song of Patrick- Specifically, the song that Patrick makes that becomes a hit (and also kills people upon their hearing it because it’s just that bad.) Here are the words for those of you who are unfamiliar:

Twinkle, twinkle Patrick Star
I made myself a sandwich
My mommy named it Fred
It tastes like beans and bacon
And it smells like it's been dead
Writing stuff is hard so I use a pointy pencil
Pointy Pointy Pointy
Pointy Pointy Point
Pee-yew what's that horrible smell?
DRUM SOLO!
(drum solo)
I have a head
It ends in a point
A pointy pointy pointy
pointy pointy point
This song is over
Except for this line
You win this round
Broccoli

You gotta love that song. It’s so terrible, it’s hilarious.
