Hairstyles for a Long Narrow Face
The hairstyles to look for are those that cause the shape of your face to appear shorter and fuller. These styles create the illusion of width with horizontal lines.
Bangs cause the eye to go side to side instead of up and down. Choose fluffy bangs all the way across your forehead or long bangs that are brushed to the side from a low side part. If you have small features or want your eyes to appear larger, choose short baby bangs. If full bangs seem to be too heavy for you, have them texturized to take out some of the bulk and allow your forehead to show through.
The best length for your hair is at chin length or above but if you prefer to wear your hair long, layering and styling will give interest at the sides, thus creating the horizontal lines.
This style is cut at a length that gives the illusion of width at the chin line. The hair is combed back at the sides for fullness at the temples. The fringe of bangs across the forehead also adds width.
This chin length flip adds width at the chin line. The bangs are combed to the side from a low side part and tucked behind the ears. The use of horizontal lines in this style make it a perfect style for a long narrow face shape.
This short haircut creates horizontal lines with full bangs and a little bit of fringe peaking out behind the ears.
This long hair style is layered and brushed back and out from the face. The layers and the bangs create the horizontal lines that add width to a narrow face. |
Things to avoid:
A center part will make your face appear longer. It will also make your nose appear longer.
Avoid too much fullness especially if you have small features. Keep your hairstyle in proportion even if the current trend is “big hair.”
Long hair that is flat has only vertical lines, and will make your face appear longer.
