Turkey Nutrition

Turkey is very healthy for you! Some people think that turkey has a hormone in it that causes people to fall asleep. This is tryptophan. While this used to be believed, in modern times we now know that tryptophan is in such small amounts in a turkey that it doesn't have any affect at all on human beings! If you are falling asleep during the turkey-eating holidays, it isn't the turkey doing it. It's all of the carbohydrates you are inhaling during these meals - the mashed potatoes, boiled potatoes, bread, and other sugary / starchy things that you are eating.

How much protein is found in turkey? You get about 24g of protein for 3oz of turkey. This is a very healthy protein, without excess risk of heavy metals (a la fish) or excess fat (a la beef).
