Crazy Year in Golf

Crazy Year in Golf
My new Golf Digest had many interesting articles and the one that caught my eye was “What a Crazy Year” with questions sent to Dan Jenkins. Dan is a great writer and the author of many fun filled books about golf. I have read many of those books and always enjoy his sense of humor and crazy things that happen around golf. His characters are described so well that you are sure he is talking about someone you know.

In this January issue he was given the job of answering questions from readers and he set up a quiz for you to pick what happened in this crazy year of golf. The article mentions some of the more well known happenings such as, Tiger Woods winless in 2010, Dustin Johnson loses the PGA Championship by grounding his club in a bunker, Jim Furyk Mr reliable wins the Fed-Ex Cup after being disqualified the first playoff event for oversleeping, you get the idea of all the unusual things that happened around golf this year.

The Golf Digest asked Dan Jenkins to come up with a quiz to see how many readers paid attentions to all the crazy things that really happened during this golf season. Of course his first question was about Dustin Johnson saying he wouldn’t know a bunker if he were: a. The answers you had to pick from were, a. standing in it, b. standing outside it, b. seeing people standing in it with him, c. wishing he hadn’t hit is driver on the last hole of the PGA. One could see this was going to be even though most of us knew that answer.

There were 29 such questions by Dan Jenkins that you had to read through and all of them were funny. Many were from all the golf professionals even the women Pro’s such as #16 with Paula Creamer the U.S. Women’s Open was a better deal for the LPGA Tour than: a. Lorena Ochoa’s sudden retirement, b. A transgender lawsuit for discrimination, c. Michelle Wie breaking another rule. I thought the best one was the last one #29 – When a golfer hit a rock with his wedge in the rough and the spark set off a huge fire in Irvine, Calif., people said: a. Must have been the new grooves, b. I’m moving to Maine, c. I didn’t know “Tommy Bolt was still alive.

Dan Jenkins has such a great sense of humor and sees the funny side of everything. This was a great read and the whole magazine Golf Digest was right on for making January a little more sunny for all the addictive golfers.
