Multi-platinum selling band MercyMe was named best Contemporay Inspiration Artist at the 2010 American Music Awards. The group was nominated with Georgia's Casting's Crowns and former DC Talk frontman Toby Mac.
The event took place in Los Angeles at the Nokia Theater. It was broadcast on ABC.
This was the second win for the GRAMMY ® nominated band which previously took home the title in 2004. The Contemporay Inspiration category is the only category that is available for Christian and Gospel artists.
Since MercyMe's win in 2004, they have sold nearly 6 million records with all of their albums being certified Gold or Platinum.
MercyMe has also made appearances on several mainstream media shows including; The Tonight Show, CNN, Fox New Channel’s Fox & Friends, ABC News, CBS’ The Early Show, and on the pages of Entertainment Weekly, The New York Times, USA Today, Billboard, and more.
The band thanked their fans on their blog saying, “It makes sense that we’d win a ‘Fan Voted’ award because you guys are amazing. Seriously we couldn’t ask for a better community that surrounds us and our music. Thank you so much for being involved in our ministry. We can’t thank you enough.”
Currently, MercyMe is wrapping up their Lovewell Live tour performing songs off their latest project The Generous Mr. Lovewell (INO Records) where they have been singing songs off the new album including their recent single “Beautiful.”
“Beautiful” has been heard on radio stations across the country and is continuing to climb the radio charts taking the No. 6 spot on AC Indicator and No. 10 on AC Monitored.
