Gardeners will find quite a few new kalanchoes are available. The following are highly recommended.

Fantastic Kalanchoe thyrsiflora

One of the paddle plants, this is a vision of beauty. It is grown for the exquisite foliage rather than the flowers. This is noted for the very large leaves, which are mainly reddish, especially along the margins of the leaves. Some of the foliage is almost entirely red. The new growth is tinged with cream, gold, and green. Fantastic is a variegated variety that otherwise resembles the parent plant, which is the ever-popular flapjack or paddle plant.

Fantastic kalanchoe is an award winning new variety. It was awarded the Favorite New Foliage Plant Award and Retailer’s Choice Award during the Tropical Plant Industry Expo in 2010.


New Calandiva Kalanchoes

There is no shortage of new Calandiva varieties for 2011. All of these new varieties are lush, vigorous, well branched plants. Nearly all of them have double type blooms with one exception.

Birkin Calandiva blooms fairly early, and has oversized, pure pink flowers.
The plants are compact.

Brazil Calandiva has vivid yellow blossoms that are very long lasting. This variety is very compact.

Cadillac Pink Calandiva is named for the very large, clear pink blossoms. These have a deeper pink tinge in the center. The leaves are medium in size.

Dabo Calandiva has beautiful, large, bicolored pink blossoms. There is a lighter shade of pink along the margins. The plants maintain their good looks for a long period.

Casablanca Calandiva is a spectacular white flowering kalanchoe.
Fiesta Calandiva is an early flowering variety with pure bright red blooms. The plants are very compact.

Foster Calandiva is a late blooming variety. This has neon pink flowers. The well branched plants are very compact.

Jamaica Calandiva is noted for its orangish-yellow blooms. The vigorous, well branched plants have deep green foliage.

Rio Calandiva is a late blooming variety. This features pure orange blooms.

Swan Calandiva is an early flowering variety. It is the only new variety with single type blossoms. These large blooms are pure white.
