Cleaning Tips for New Twin Parents
Your twins are born! The whole rollercoaster of feedings, diaper changes, and napping has begun. After a couple of weeks when you think you have this whole thing down, you start to notice one thing. Even though you have a grip on this whole twin situation, you do not have a grip on the household situation. Looking around, you now realize that what used to be a clean home now looks more like a war zone! What did you do wrong? Before these little people popped into your life you were known for being clean and organized! You obviously need to find a different routine!
Well, I was there too, and I can tell you that it’s not as bad as it seems. You just need to follow a couple of tips to make sure that this does not get so out of control that you are considered a hoarder by your family and friends!
Vacuuming
It might sound odd at first but babies actually like the white noise of a vacuum. They will not be startled if you vacuum during nap time. Even if you don't get through the whole house, at least vacuum the common areas. It will take you about 5 minutes and you will definitely start feeling a little better.
Wipes
Remember those glass cleaning, wood cleaning, and disinfecting wipes that you saw at the supermarket and wondered who would buy them? The answer is you. Place a pack of these wipes under every sink and when you go to the bathroom wipe everything down fast with these wipes. They're quick, effective, and best of all, disposable. It takes more time to gather and then put away cleaning supplies than it does to just wipe everything down!
Mail
The one thing that people realize when they walk into your home is the clutter of papers laying around. Assign a basket or a drawer for your mail that is out of the eye view of visitors. At least once a week try to weed out the unnecessary mail so that you don’t find the basket overflowing.
Make your bed
If you can only accomplish one thing a day make sure that it is making your bed. In a recent study it was revealed that people who made their beds are overall happier than those that don’t. It takes about 2 minutes and boy does it feel good!
After reading these tips don’t try to do everything the same day. The point is to not overwhelm yourself with daily chores but to find a way of getting these simple things done on a weekly basis. Remember that your babies are your number one priority and everyone that comes by to visit should know that. Enjoy your twins as much as you can and don’t stress yourself over the little things. I have to go… my twinks are sleeping and the vacuum just smiled at me. :)
