For either of these styles, you will need lots of thick hair or the appearance of it. I will speak to those who do not have thick hair naturally.
Start with using volumizing shampoo and conditioner.Find some suggestions here. If you have lightened your hair, you will also need to choose shampoo that is safe for color treated hair.
Next towel dry and apply a firm hold hair gel or mousse. Apply it first to the root area and then work out to the ends.
Blow your hair dry by turning your head upside-down until about the first six inches, from the root out, are dry. Then you can flip your head right side up and finish drying the ends.
