Flame of Recca
Flame of Recca is an anime series based on the manga by Nobuyuki Anzai.
The main character of Flame of Recca is a teenage boy named Recca Hanabishi, who is interested in ninja things. He also claims to be an actual ninja. By the end of the first episode, Recca discovers that he possesses an ability to control and manipulate flames, and that he is actually the son of the sixth generation leader of the Hokage clan. The Hokage was a ninja clan that was wiped out by Oda Nobunaga in 1576, which is roughly 400 years before the start of the series. It turns out that during the attack on the Hokage clan, Recca's mother had used a forbidden technique to open a portal to send Recca to the future.
During the first episode of Flame of Recca, Recca meets Yanagi, a teenage girl with the ability to heal any wound or injury due to her kindness and compassion. Yanagi demonstrates her ability to Recca when she heals him after a pile of metal pipes collapses on top of him. Recca was hit by the pipes when he was trying to save Yanagi. At the end of the first episode, Recca pledges his loyalty and services as a ninja to Yanagi.
The main antagonist of the series is Mori Koran. He is a very rich man, and wants eternal life so he can enjoy his riches. During the series, he wants to kidnap Yanagi, because he believes that her powers can help him achieve his goal of eternal life.
When watching Flame of Recca, I would have sworn that it had come out in the mid-1980s, due to the animation style. So I was surprised to discover it actually came out in the mid-to-late 1990s. As I watched the first episode, I could also see where some potential inspiration for the manga and anime of Naruto had come from.
When it comes to content, the main issue with Flame of Recca is the fact that there is some blood shown on screen. Personally, I would recommend this series to anime viewers who are 14 or 15 years of age and older.
