Member/Guest Tournament is Over
After months of work, planning and organizing our Member/Guest tournament is over. Janet Gravette and I have put in many hours of work to try to make this event a successful one. Janet was great to work with she is energetic has great ideas and is willing to follow through. We came up with the theme last February calling it “Swing Away in May” on May 19th and 20th using a colorful poster and sign up sheet for our ladies to post themselves and their guest including handicaps. We kept our membership informed at each monthly board meeting as to how all the planning was going and door prize gift donation.
We worked with Ralph Harris our Manager of Mill Creek Golf Club as they would be handling this tournament. We received cooperation and approval of all things we were planning for the day of the event. We agreed on the price of $119.00 for a member and her guest. If a member was bringing three guests the cost would be $263.00. We set up a practice round on Wednesday plus a putting contest and the main event would be on Thursday starting at 9:00 a.m. shot gun start.
Matt Sommerfield our Pro will handle all the registrations as this would be paid for at the desk. We had some of our members manage the welcome table checking each as they entered. The guest received a colorful welcome sack with two pair of golf sock, ball and package of tees, marker and divot fixer. Registered players would receive two mulligans for $1.00 and we chose to give them two pieces of wrapped mints to use as their mulligan. This table also sold tickets of $1.00 each for the 30 door prizes these tickets had numbers on them with identical numbers that would be drawn after our luncheon
We used a member Marilyn Brewer to help organize the breakfast of burrito’s with fruit tarts, orange juice and coffee which was obtained at our Brookshire Grocery. Our breakfast was to start at 8:00 with tee off at 9:00 a.m. The day started off great with sunny skies and everything went off as planned. Members and their guest registered and received their welcome gift sack and paid for their mulligan and door prize ticket then enjoyed their breakfast. We then were getting organized to tee off at 9:00 a.m. while Matt gave us instructions as the game would be scoring two best balls of the foursome and handed out score cards. Janet also welcomed all guest and wish them success in their game. Score cards must be handed into Pro Shop before leaving for the luncheon at Stagecoach.
Following play we went to the Stagecoach conference room where Janet and I had set up the 5 round tables for 8 places with our table prizes and the door prize table two days before the tournament. This was helpful so we were clear to do any last minute things the days of the tournament. Luncheon was a salad bar with ice tea and carrot cake which was refreshing after playing our tournament.
Matt came while some members and guest were still eating and posted his poster of the winning teams. Our players were on time this year and keep a good pace of play so we all finished about the same. Matt announced the three winning teams and awarded them gift certificates to the Pro Shop. He also announced the winners of the Putting contest with gift certificates. We all appreciate the hard work that Matt does for us and is always willing to try what we suggest. The putting contest was amazing.
Janet and I announced the drawings for the door prizes as she drew out the numbers and read them I delivered the set prize to each individual that won. We had collected 30 door prizes and most everybody won something during our two day tournament. We were happy with the results and so were many who contacted us afterwards thanking us for a job well done. We will have a final meeting with Ralph and Matt to go over details of the tournament with our suggestion to raise the price of the tournament and have the Club include in their price the breakfast that could be handled by the Club grill. Our LGA will take care of any other gifts they would purchase to give away at the luncheon.
Thank You cards went out to all Salado business places who donated to our tournament. We wanted to include all of Salado so our guests would get to know about our community along with our golf course. I took pictures of each gift that was donated and sent that picture to the business in their thank you note. The following picture was from a Mill Creek member Sherry Sewell who has a business called Salado Gourmet we thank Sherry for her donation to our tournament.
